Dear Avery,
Last week, over 400 “Avery’s Lion” orders were packaged and shipped across the nation, and I continue to receive inquiries daily about when I will have more available! You even got an order in England, thanks to Lance Armstrong giving us a shout-out… I wish I had more than my own two hands, but you know, it is truly amazing how quickly everything has come together. It’s like seeing “angels in the outfield” every day, and I cannot seem to get this dumbfounded look off my face, as though it is surprising.
Today my sweet friend, Holly, went with me to the Children’s Hospital Colorado to determine if it would be possible to deliver “Avery’s Lion” prints to patients over Christmas. Holly is a nurse at the hospital and knew exactly what doors to knock on. We were able to meet some very important and kind people who made time to hear your story.
Apparently, with countless rules and regulations in place, it is rare to have hand-delivery access to patients anymore, especially children. However, add it to the list of miracles over this whole project, somehow they are allowing me access to go door-to-door in the “pediatric oncology department” to give children with cancer their very own copy of your lion! Unfortunately, they are so busy this time of year, we have to wait until after Christmas, but the date is officially set, January 11, 2016 at 1:30pm.
Then after meeting with the volunteer offices, we walked over to the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation offices, and discovered they are part of one of the largest research complexes in the world finding cures and preventions for cancer. I guess it really is no surprise how all of this is falling together so seamlessly, your name is literally written all over it!
Tonight, I am ordering a bunch of pizza and hosting a “packaging party”…A group of friends and I will be hand-writing personalized notes to go in each patient package reminding these children they are fully known, and fully loved!
Also, you should know, Texas Orthopedics, where you used to work, ordered 5 big, 18x24in. prints to put up in all five of their clinics in honor of you.
Way to be born, Avery! We all miss you, but love watching you live through this crazy little piece of paper and paint.
xo,
Jennie Lou
